Itinerary
Alba Iulia in 5 days
The city at leisure, plus trips into the Trascău Mountains and to the vineyards.
Day 1 — Alba Carolina Citadel
- Morning: enter the Citadel through the Baroque gates and catch the Changing of the Guard.
- Lunch in the historic centre, beside the Citadel.
- Afternoon: the Coronation Cathedral, St Michael’s Cathedral and the National Museum of the Union.
- Evening: a BBQ and the hot tub in the private garden at Citadel Garden.
Day 2 — Museums and quiet corners
- The route of the three fortifications and the Principia (the Roman fort of Apulum).
- The Batthyaneum Library and Museikon.
- The Apor Palace and a walk along the bastions at sunset.
Day 3 — Day trip: Râpa Roșie
- A day trip by car to Râpa Roșie.
- An easy trail, suitable for families with children too.
- A quiet evening at the accommodation, perhaps in the hot tub.
Day 4 — Rimetea and Piatra Secuiului
- The village of Rimetea, with its white houses and fairy-tale atmosphere.
- A hike up to Piatra Secuiului or Colțești Citadel.
- Return towards Alba Iulia in the evening.
Day 5 — Wine at Jidvei or Câlnic Citadel
- A tasting and the vineyards at Jidvei (for adults).
- Or Câlnic Citadel, a UNESCO fortification, better suited to children.
- Dinner in Alba Iulia.
